Vermilion Safety Town and trout release planned

Summer Safety Town registration now open Registration for this summer's Vermilion Safety Town is open. Children entering kindergarten or first grade are eligible to attend to learn basic safety rules. Registration packets were dropped off at Vermilion Elementary and St. Mary schools and area day care centers. Packets also can be picked up at the Vermilion Police Department. Sessions will be held from June 13-24, with graduation on June 24. Morning sessions are 9:30-11:20 a.m. and afternoon sessions are 1-3 p.m. There are limited morning slots available. Attendance fees are $20 per child. Annual fingerling trout release April 29 The Ohio Division of Wildlife will return to the Vermilion River for its annual release of fingerling trout April 29. Following longstanding tradition, students from St. Mary and Vermilion Elementary schools will walk to the city's South Street Boat Ramp, 777 W. River Road, to meet officials for the release. Winners of the school's kindergarten to second grade springtime coloring contest will be announced, and the winners will get to help in the release.
