Three people killed in two shootings in Lorain

Three people are dead after two shooting incidents Saturday morning in Lorain. Officers responded to the 3200 block of Eagle Avenue for a call about shots fired about 3:30 a.m. There they found Robert Gonzalez, 38, lying in the street in front of 3242 Eagle Ave. with gunshot wounds, according to a news release. He was rushed to Mercy Health Lorain, where he died from his injuries. The investigation is ongoing. Several hours later, officers were dispatched to 615 W. 36th St. for a welfare check about 10 a.m. On arrival, officers saw signs of gunfire and entered the home. There, they found Jeffery Moore, 34, and Marlena Taylor, 41, both dead of apparent gunshot wounds, police said. Lorain police are not seeking a suspect in the second shooting as it appears to be a murder-suicide. Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact the Lorain Police Detective Bureau at (440) 204-2105. These are the first shooting deaths in Lorain this year and take the total number of individuals dead by gunfire in Lorain County up to seven. On Jan. 1, Elyria police responded to a disturbance near 2 Kerstetter Way and found Dominique Anderson, 28, of Elyria, had been shot. He was pronounced dead at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. On Jan. 4, Rolando Pilson, 40, of Elyria was found shot in the head in the 100 block of Brace Avenue in Elyria. He was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center where he died from his injuries. On Jan. 6, Milenna Lopez, 24, of Lorain, was shot and killed at the McDonald's in Sheffield. James Kimbrough, 34, of Lorain, is wanted in connection with her killing. On Jan. 29, Christopher Sayers, 24, of Elyria was shot and killed at a home on Whitehead Road in LaGrange Township during a child custody exchange, according to the Lorain County Sheriff's Office. Last year, Lorain saw 12 individuals murdered in the city — a sharp spike from the four killed in the city 2020. Mayor Jack Bradley recently declared Feb. 1 to 7 National Gun Violence Survivor Week to honor and remember victims of gun violence in the city.
