Lorain police find drugs, guns, $61K cash while serving search warrants Friday

LORAIN — Two people were arrested and drugs, money and firearms were recovered by Lorain police on Friday as they served search warrants at two residences within the city. The search warrants were served at residences in the 1300 block of West 21st Street and the 900 block of West 14th Street. Detectives recovered about 15 grams of crack cocaine, a pound of marijuana, suspected Xanax and oxycodone pills, two rifles, two handguns and more than $61,000 cash, according to a news release from the Lorain Police Detective Bureau. Two suspects were arrested for their roles in allegedly "working in concert with one another to distribute crack cocaine in the city of Lorain," the release stated. Christopher L. King, 35, was arrested on a drug trafficking charge and weapons violations. Latilka L. Calhoun, 41, was arrested on a drug trafficking charge stemming from the investigation. Detectives said the investigation is ongoing and both suspects could face additional charges. King and Calhoun both have prior drug convictions, according to detectives. The release stated that King has prior convictions for aggravated robbery, kidnapping and robbery, and he is on parole for those convictions. The investigation was led by Lorain police Detective Cielo Rodriguez, according to the release. The Lorain Police Narcotics Unit was assisted in serving the warrants by the Lorain Police SWAT team, Lorain Police Detective Bureau, Elyria Police Narcotics Unit, U.S. Marshals Task Force officers and the FBI. Lorain Schools issued a release Friday morning stating that several of its buildings were put on a precautionary 10-minute lockdown at 7:30 a.m. while police "conducted a raid in the area." The buildings affected were Lorain High School, General Johnnie Wilson Middle School, Frank Jacinto Elementary, Washington Elementary, the administration center and warehouse, according to the district. According to police, the investigation was set in motion by information from residents in the neighborhood and proactive efforts of the patrol division of Lorain Police Department.
