Lafarge helps build, deliver beds in $5,000 donation to Good Knights

Lafarge's Great Lakes Aggregate regional office in Cleveland had several associates volunteering to build and deliver beds to Good Knights of Lorain County this winter. The charity works to build and deliver beds and bedding to children so they don't have to sleep on the floor. Lafarge also held a bedding drive in four of its locations in which employees and customers donated more than $1,000 worth of bedding. "We continually look for ways to make a positive impact in the communities in which our employees and customers live and operate," said Scott Plourde, general manager of the Great Lakes West region. "When we were introduced to Good Knights, our entire team, including vendors and customers, were excited to help such a noble cause. We look forward to continuing to build on our relationship with Good Knights and will be looking for more ways to be involved with them moving forward." "A good night's sleep is fundamental to good health, good academic performance and a positive way of living. Too many children in our community have to sleep on cold, hard floors or in other uncomfortable conditions," Good Knights said in a news release. "Our goal is to do everything we can to ensure that every child in Lorain County has a safe and comfortable bed to sleep in, and Lafarge's support helps us in our mission," said Roger Dorsey, executive director of Good Knights of Lorain County. Dorsey said Good Knights works with volunteers of nonprofit agencies and first responders to supply beds to children in need. When a delivery is made, each child receives a bed, mattress, pillows, pillowcases, sheets and a blanket. "At any given time, there are 6,000 to 9,000 children in Lorain County without a bed," Dorsey said. "We want to change that."
