Betty L. Coffey

Betty L. Coffey (nee Mende) passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born September 29, 1928 in Urbana, Ohio, to German immigrant parents Herman and Margaret Mende. As a toddler she moved to Germany for a brief time during the depression. She graduated Urbana High School in 1946, where she met her future husband, Richard Coffey. They married in 1952 and settled in Avon Lake shortly thereafter where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a devoted wife and mother and that was her focus. When her children became independent she started working for Avon Lake Schools as an elementary school lunch and playground attendant which she did for many years. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, playing Bridge with her friends and gardening. After her husband's passing, she lived independently in her home until two days before her death. Betty is survived by her children, Karen Coffey (Peter Rockwood), Doug (Dawn) Coffey and Pam Boyer; grandchildren, Jenna (Bill) Tuttle, Brett Coffey and Carly Boyer; great-grandchildren, Ava and Brynn Tuttle and a brother, Richard (Jan) Mende. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Coffey and her son-in-law, Mike Boyer.
