Academic achievements

Ashland University Isaac Davis, a recent graduate of Amherst High School, has been selected to be an Ashbrook Scholar, according to an announcement by the Ashbrook Center at Ashland University. Baldwin Wallace University BEREA — Local college students were inducted into Baldwin Wallace University's Mu Zeta chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, in the spring 2021 semester. Society membership is extended to students who have a minimum overall 3.3 GPA, have completed four political science courses with an average GPA of 3.3 or better, have completed at least one 300 or 400 level political science course and have reached at least sophomore standing. Cory Dulemba of Elyria was among 10 inducted. Local college students were inducted into the Baldwin Wallace University Business Honor Society in the spring 2021 semester. Society membership is extended to students with three semesters of college completed, three courses in mathematics including at least one in calculus, a minimum 3.0 GPA in mathematics and a ranking in the upper 35 percent of their class. Nate Bianco, of Columbia Station, was among the 15 students inducted. Morgan Chilton, of North Ridgeville, was part of the cast and crew in the Baldwin Wallace University and Playhouse Square collaborative production of "BARS (Beatboxing, Acting, Rapping, Singing)" during the spring 2021 semester. Chilton, a graduate of Elyria Catholic High School, served as a member of the arts management producing team in the production. Berea College BEREA, Kentucky — Casey Plas, a resident of Elyria, has been named to the Spring 2021 Dean's List at Berea College. A student is named to the Dean's List who achieves a GPA of 3.4 or higher while passing at least four total credits, a course load equivalent to 16 semester hours. Emerson College BOSTON, Massachusetts — Pat Adams, a native of Avon Lake, has been named to Emerson College's Dean's List for the Spring 2021 semester. Adams is majoring in media arts production and is a member of the Class of 2022. The requirement to make Emerson's Dean's List is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher. Lee University CLEVELAND, Tennessee — Lee University has announced its Spring 2021 Dean's List and two local students were recognized. Dean's List recognition is earned by full-time, on-campus students with a semester grade point average between 3.7 and 4.0. The students are Brynna Hanratty and Eliza Souers, both of North Ridgeville. Bowling Green State University Regina Wolf, of Amherst, who is attending Bowling Green State University in the College of Arts and Sciences, made the Fall 2020 Dean's List. She was a member of the 2020 Falcon Marching Band and is a continuing member of the University Dance Alliance and current member of the Falconettes dance team. North Ridgeville resident Joshua Chrosniak, from Miami University's Project Dragonfly, has published an original article, "Using Origami to Teach Children About Endangered Animals," on Edutopia.org, website of the George Lucas Educational Foundation that connects readers to the natural world. Southern New Hampshire University MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — Southern New Hampshire University announced its summer 2021 President's List. Full-time students who have earned a minimum GPA of 3.7 and above are named to the President's List. The University of Findlay's Hunt Seat Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) team has become one of the top equestrian teams in the country. Riders are judged on hunt seat equitation over fences and/or on the flat. As a member of Findlay's IHSA team, students learn teamwork, time management and how to be successful riders who produce winning rides. University of Wisconsin Oshkosh OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — The UW Oshkosh 147th spring commencement recognized Jessica Nowoslawski with a nursing degree from the College of Nursing on May 15, 2021. University of Rhode Island KINGSTON, Rhode Island — The University of Rhode Island celebrated more than 4,000 of its newest alumni during the university's 135th Commencement. Among the graduates was Riley Houde, of Avon, who received a bachelor of science in kinesiology, magna cum laude. University of Utah SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The University of Utah saw 8,442 graduates in a virtual commencement ceremony May 6.
