Police identify four dead in apparent Avon Lake murder-suicide (UPDATED)

AVON LAKE — Two adults and two children are dead in what police believe was a murder-suicide. Avon Lake patrol officers were called to a residence on English Turn, located in the Legacy Pointe neighborhood, at 1:18 p.m. Tuesday for a welfare check. When the officers arrived, they observed a suspicious condition inside the residence and requested that detectives respond, according to a news release. Officers and detectives entered the residence, where they found two adults and two children dead with gunshot wounds. The four people found dead in the home have been identified by police as Jeffrey Hull, 50, Heidi Hull, 46, Garrett Hull, 9, and Grant Hull, 6. The Lorain County coroner was notified of the incident, which is suspected to be a murder-suicide. The Avon Lake Detective Bureau is investigating the incident with assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Besides the yellow crime scene tape strung around the home and the BCI vehicle parked in the driveway, nothing appeared out of the ordinary from the exterior Tuesday evening. A children's soccer goal sat beside the garage and a metallic garden pinwheel spun in the evening breeze. Inside, BCI investigators were searching around with flashlights and collecting photographs of the scene. Neighbors walking by expressed disbelief and sadness at the discovery earlier in the day in the ordinarily quiet neighborhood. Others, returning home, were not yet aware of the situation. Avon Lake Schools sent an email to families at Erieview Elementary, a kindergarten to fourth grade building, informing them of the loss of "one of our Erieview families, including two students." "As we cope with this unimaginable grief, it is important that we recognize this loss and offer help. This is a sensitive issue for children, and we suggest that you talk with your children about their feelings," the email stated. The district arranged to have grief counselors at Erieview this morning to work with staff and students in the wake of the loss, according to Superintendent Bob Scott. School counselors from around the county who form a crisis team will work with students, as well as communicate with staff about how to best work with students. In an email sent to the larger Avon Lake Schools community, families were encouraged to contact the principal or counselor at their student's building if their family is in need of assistance. Lorain County Auditor's Office records show the house where the incident took place was built in 2014. The most recent sale of the property was in 2017 to Heidi Hull.
