LCCC students win journalism awards

ELYRIA — Students at Lorain County Community College won 11 awards in this year's Press Club of Cleveland Student Run Media All Ohio Excellence in Journalism competition June 24, according to a news release. In the two-year college category, The Collegian newspaper earned eight honors and Boom Radio earned three awards. LCCC students won first through third place in the "Best Print Newspaper Story" category, first through third in the "Best Print Feature Story" category, first place in the "Best Print Sports Story" category, second place in the "Best Online Report Trade" category, and first through third place in the "Best Radio/Podcast News" category. Student Anthony LaRosa, 19, of Amherst, earned first place for best print feature story and best print sports story. "Both of my winning stories focused on how different programs at the college were handling their business during the pandemic, and I feel like I was able to concisely explain their struggle during such an odd year," LaRosa said in a statement. LCCC offers a journalism — public relations and advertising one-year certificate for careers in journalism, public relations, marketing and advertising.
