Grace F. Matus

Grace F. Matus, 95, of Wakeman, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021. She was born October 12, 1925 in Dunkirk, New York and graduated from Birmingham High School in 1943. She married Steve Matus, Sr. in 1948 and went on to raise a family of nine children. She later worked as a school bus driver for Firelands School District, retiring after around 20 years. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and gardening, but mostly spending time with her husband, children and then grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grace was very witty and could make everyone laugh. Her children refer to her as an unpaid comedienne and she loved to laugh and make people smile. One of her favorite statements was, 'this too shall pass.' She was beautiful, energetic and strong. She was incredibly loving; she had more love to share than she had family members. She would tell each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that they were her favorite and each one believed her. Grace is survived by children, Steve Matus, John (Marlene) Matus, Thomas (Betty) Matus, Peter Matus, Joseph Matus, Kathleen Donohue, Patricia (James) Chorak, Francine (Robert) Hajski and Belinda Wagner; grandchildren, Kyle (Kristen) Matus, Stephanie (Brett) Matus, Natalie (Jim) Donohue, Adrienne (Matt) Ippolito, Jessica (Chris) Collett, Tabitha (Luke) Bender, Bailey (Bruce) Deulley, Amanda (Zack) Brezinski, Sarah (Kevin) Gerber, Ed Gerber, Danielle (Alex) Martin, Ashley Matus, Erika (Rob) Matus, Samantha Matus; numerous step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Steve Matus, Sr.; parents, Charles Dodge and Matilda (Eberly) Armbruster; sons-in-law, Robert Wagner and James Donohue; sister, Mary Ann Firth; several brothers and sisters-in-law; great-granddaughter, Briar Matus and five nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 25, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 46 E. Main Street, Wakeman. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
