Police chase travels from Elyria to Lorain, suspect still loose

ELYRIA — A police chase that started in Elyria just before 1 p.m. Tuesday ended with a car being abandoned in Lorain. Elyria police attempted on pull over Fred Golson, 20, for failing to yield. He also had multiple warrants for his arrest, including one involving a Cleveland Street shooting. Golson did not pull over, leading to a chase that led onto Gateway Boulevard, Murray Ridge Road, Broadway and eventually was called off in Lorain. After the chase was called off, Elyria police Capt. Bill Pelko said the tan Saturn was found abandoned at 21st Street and Hamilton in Lorain. The car was towed, and Golson was not found. Golson was arrested in April with three others after a report of shots fired near Blue Sky Restaurant in Elyria. He and others headed to North Ridgeville, where police tried to pull them over. A short chase ensued before the car crashed near Mills Road. In that case, Golson was charged with having weapons under a disability, improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation and carrying a concealed weapon. He also has separate charges through North Ridgeville police for resisting arrest and obstructing official business. Those charges are moving through Elyria Municipal Court. According to court records, Golson failed to appear after posting bond and warrants through both Elyria and North Ridgeville were issued in May. He's also facing charges of failing to stop after a collision, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and failure to control from a crash in March. Golson's next hearing for that is scheduled in July. Golson also was charged early in April with criminal mischief and assault, which is still working its way through court. He picked up a charge in February this year through North Ridgeville for driving without a valid license as well. Golson plead guilty in April. He will now face additional charges from police after Tuesday's incident.
