Elyria police blotter for June 1-2, 2021

Elyria police Wednesday, June 2 8:36 a.m. — Quality Inn, Leona Street, suspicious activity. A truck driver reported that sometime overnight, someone had scratched the paint on a 2021 Ford Edge that was loaded onto his car carrier in the hotel parking lot. It could not be determined how the vehicle was damaged. 11:14 a.m. — Turner Boulevard, property damage. A property owner reported that after her tenant had moved out, she found food and liquid strewn across the rental property's kitchen, dining room and living room floors, along with a flooded toilet downstairs and a damaged bedroom door upstairs. The property owner wanted the incident documented after speaking with her attorney. 11:53 a.m. — Foster Avenue, suspicious activity. A security guard reported that as she was checking a bank-owned property in the 200 block of Foster Avenue, she believed that the water heater had been stolen. Officers could not determine if the previous owner had taken the equipment with them when they moved out, and there was no evidence of a break-in. 1:08 p.m. — North Ridge Road, Elyria Township, warrant service. India Anderson, 23, Allen Street, was arrested on a bench warrant for failure to appear in Elyria Municipal Court in a 2018 criminal case. Lorain police handed over custody of Anderson, who was taken to Lorain County Jail. 3:23 p.m. — Sugar Lane, disorderly conduct. Kevin Flowers, 19, Lorain, was arrested on a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge. Tuesday, June 1 9:01 a.m. — Blake Street and Gateway Boulevard South, warrant service. La'niya Belcher, 19, Gateway Boulevard South, was arrested on a Lorain County Sheriff's Office warrant following a traffic stop on her gold Buick. She was handed over to the custody of a sheriff's deputy at the scene. 3:06 p.m. — Nagel Road, Avon, warrant service. Frank Reid, 31, Brunswick, was arrested on a bench warrant through Elyria Municipal Court in a 2019 criminal case. An Elyria officer met with an Avon officer who had Reid in custody, and served him his warrant. Avon police then took Reid to Brunswick Hills to be served additional warrants he had through the Brunswick Hills Police Department. 3:24 p.m. — Bell Avenue, operating a vehicle impaired. Derrick Hall, 25, Brook Park, was arrested on a felony heroin possession charge and misdemeanor charges of DUI and failure to control. Officers responding to a report that a man was slumped over behind the wheel of a white SUV in the middle of Bell Avenue found Hall in the driver's seat. He was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center by LifeCare after telling police he had snorted Xanax prior to driving. Police found 59 anti-anxiety pills in the car that Hall said he bought "in downtown Lorain" that day. A white powder inside the car also tested positive for the presence of heroin. Hall was cited and left in the care of UH Elyria personnel. 4:13 p.m. — Fourth Street and Charles Court, drug possession. Brandi Sproule, 37, Lorain, was arrested on a felony methamphetamine possession charge, a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug abuse instruments, and cited with driving under suspension and running a stop sign. Officers stopped Sproule's white 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser for failing to stop at a stop sign at St. Mary's Way and East Avenue. A search revealed a small amount of meth and several hypodermic syringes in her backpack. Sproule, who also had a warrant out for her arrest through the Strongsville Police Department, was taken to the Elyria Police Department, issued a summons, advised of the warrant and released with orders to appear in Elyria Municipal Court on June 2. 7:02 p.m. — 16th Street, weapons violations. Jonathan Little, 39, of 16th Street, was arrested on felony charges of having weapons under disability and drug possession, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers investigating a domestic dispute between Little and his wife learned he was high on cocaine with guns in the house. Little became belligerent and aggressive and had a shotgun within reach when officers arrived, and there was suspected cocaine on top of a scale on his dresser. Little refused police commands and told officers: "Yeah, I used cocaine, I have the right to." The suspected cocaine and a Mossberg 20-gauge shotgun were seized as evidence, and Little was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Lorain County Children Services also was alerted due to the child being in the home at the time. 7:41 p.m. — Sussex Lane, drug investigation. Selena Johnson, 25, Avon Lake, was arrested on a felony heroin possession charge and misdemeanor charges of endangering children, possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers responding to an overdose learned that Johnson had injected heroin and that a witness handed LifeCare paramedics a used needle. Johnson also had heroin inside her bra and had done the drugs while a 7-year-old child was present. Johnson declined to be taken to a hospital and was instead taken to Lorain County Jail. 10:41 p.m. — Barbara Street, burglary. Josue Vazquez, 36, Garden Street, was arrested on a felony burglary charge. Vazquez reportedly broke into a Barbara Street residence while the occupants were home and tried to steal a 65-inch TV worth approximately $900. The victims confronted him, got him to leave and then followed him to an address in the 800 block of Lake Avenue where he had an apparent seizure as officers approached to arrest him. After being checked out and cleared by doctors at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, Vazquez was taken to Lorain County Jail.
