Elyria police blotter for May 19-21, 2021

Elyria police Friday, May 21 3:21 a.m. — Oak Street, disturbance. Debra Rich, 38, Oak Street, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct persisting. Officers responding to a 911 call learned Rich had become upset during an argument, screaming and throwing items, then broke the windshield of a white Ford F-150 with a piece of firewood. She would not calm down and was arrested and taken to Lorain County Jail. Thursday, May 20 10:54 p.m. — David Drive, suspicious activity. A 22-year-old David Drive woman reported that she returned home after a week of staying in Cleveland to find her apartment unlocked, three small kitchen appliances and a $20 bill missing. Her car had been stolen in Lorain along with her ID and keys and she was concerned someone had kept them and used them to break into her apartment. No suspects were identified and the woman said she had requested her landlords change the locks. 8:49 p.m. — Seventh Street, warrant service. Angelia Bongiovanni, 30, Parma, was arrested on a warrant through the Avon Police Department. Bongiovanni's mother said Bongiovanni was causing a disturbance, so police arrested Bongiovanni and handed her over to the custody of an Avon police officer. 8:47 p.m. — North Abbe Road, operating a vehicle impaired. Kristie Smith, 47, Lorain, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of DUI, illegal blood-alcohol content and reasonable control. Officers dispatched to a noninjury traffic crash found that Smith's black Honda SUV had hit several parked cars. Smith appeared intoxicated, refused field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.221 percent — two-and-a-half times the legal limit — and was cited and released to a sober person. 7:09 p.m. — Garden Street, obstructing. Inacio Arias-Irrizarry, 23, Garden Street, was arrested on felony warrants charging him with felonious assault and domestic violence as well as a misdemeanor charge of obstructing official business. Officers trying to serve a warrant on another person in the 1100 block of Garden Street were flagged down by neighbors who reported a man and woman arguing and children crying. Armed with a warrant, officers entered the home and found Arias-Irrizarry hiding under clothing in an upstairs closet. He gave his name as "Kenneth Vincent Pickering Jr." with a birth date in 2004 and unknown Social Security number, but a photo of Pickering did not match the man in custody. Arias-Irrizarry's mother later identified him as her son and he was arrested and taken to the Lorain County Jail. 5:46 p.m. — Elyria Police Department, warrant service. Thomas Johnson, 33, 16th Street, turned himself in at the Elyria Police Department on a warrant through Elyria Municipal Court in a 2020 misdemeanor drug paraphernalia case. He was released after being served a summons to appear in court May 26. 2:32 p.m. — Middle Avenue, drug investigation. Jeremiah Groves, 19, Warren Avenue, was arrested on felony crack cocaine trafficking and possession charges and cited with misdemeanor charges including driving under suspension and marked lanes. An officer on patrol stopped a black 2013 Ford F-150 after its tires went up on the tree lawn outside the Midview Crossing Apartments while turning into the complex. A bag of marijuana was in plain sight in the center console and Groves gave permission for a body search. More plastic baggies and cash were found in his pockets and Groves admitted he had a baggie of cocaine hidden in his buttocks. A total of 6.3 grams of cocaine, 2 grams of an unknown white powder, 6.2 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, a silver iPhone and $555 in cash were seized and Groves was taken to Lorain County Jail. Wednesday, May 19 11:32 p.m. — State Route 57 and Midway Boulevard, warrant service. Dezaray Jones, 18, Tedman Court, was arrested on a warrant through the Lorain County Detention Home. An officer stopped a black 2007 Cadillac for speeding on Route 57 — 100 mph in a 50 mph zone — and found Jones driving without a seatbelt. Jones, who also was cited with reckless operation, was taken to the Detention Home and released to the custody of the staff. 3:43 p.m. — High Street, disturbance. Shawn Salsbury, 27, High Street, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest as well as a warrant for drug possession through the State Highway Patrol. Salsbury was found hiding in a bedroom at the High Street residence during a disturbance call and appeared to be having a mental health crisis. He pulled away from officers who tried to arrest him and began "violently" swinging his arms and yelling. Salsbury was hospitalized for evaluation and issued a summons to appear in court.
