Edward E. Gardiner, Sr.

Edward E. Gardiner, Sr., 79, of Elyria, peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, May 16, 2021. He was born October 6, 1941 to parents, Edward W. Gardiner and Dorothy (nee Seevers) in Massillon. Edward grew up and graduated 1959 in Bellaire, Ohio. Edward was a United States Air Force Veteran of Vietnam. He retired after 30 years of employment at the Lorain Ford Motor Plant. He was the past Commander of AMVETS Post #32 and Past State Commander. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post #1079, Elyria. Edward hosted many events including Special Olympics and was a baseball coach of Elyria Little League West. He loved golfing, bowling, playing cards and spending time with his family, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and vacationing in his Florida home. Edward is survived by his loving wife, Betty (nee Evans), married 60 years; children, Jerry (Yulin Wu) Herron of Grafton, Shelia (Victor) Naylor of Elyria, Tina Gardiner Murphy of Elyria and Edward Jr. (Anna) of Claremore, Oklahoma; brothers, Homer (Darlene) Demastus and Joseph Demastus; sisters, Donna Thomas and Jacqueline Demastus; he was a loving grandfather to 10 and great-grandfather to eight; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Edward was preceded in death by his granddaughters, Felicia Gardiner and Courtney Gardiner; brothers, Donald Gardiner, Richard Gardiner and Thomas Demastus; sister, Beverly Olah and his parents, Homer Sr. and Dorothy Demastus. The Service will be held Friday, May 21, 2021 at Busch Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Avon, followed by a luncheon at AMVETS Post #32 in Elyria.
