Skill City information session on April 19

An information session on Elyria and Lorain County Community College's Skill City initiative will be at noon Monday. The initiative offers free training to help Elyria residents learn new skills. The information session is virtual. It will provide information on how to earn free short-term certificate programs in fields such as business, health care, manufacturing and computer science. Those eligible must be residents of Elyria and have a high school diploma. To register for the information session, go to www.lorainccc.edu/skillcity. Programs run a maximum of 16 weeks and provide participants with hands-on experience and industry-recognized credentials. The Skill City initiative is funded by $200,000 from the Issue 6 economic development funds, and was approved by Elyria City Council in December. Over the next five years, the goal is to get 2,000 Elyria residents credentialed in jobs such as health care, information technology and manufacturing. The partnership runs through the Fast-Track to Employment program LCCC launched in 2020.
