LPD investigates fatal crash on Henderson Drive

One man is dead after a crash on Henderson Drive in Lorain on Saturday. Lorain police were called out about 1 p.m. to the 21st Street underpass for the crash where Richard Webber, 33, was pronounced dead. According to a news release, a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette was going eastbound on state Route 611/Henderson Drive. After passing the Elyria Avenue intersection, Webber failed to take a curve in the road due to high speed and lost control. The Corvette went off the right side of the road, struck a guard rail and then hit the underpass wall. Webber was ejected from the car into the road. The car reentered the roadway and came to a stop under the underpass against the wall. Webber, of Elyria, was pronounced dead at the scene. His remains were turned over to the Lorain County Coroner's Office. He did not have a valid driver's license. The road was closed for about seven hours while the scene was investigated and processed for evidence. According to the news release, excessive speed and reckless driving appear to be factors in the crash. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors. The crash is still under investigation by the Lorain Police Department Traffic Bureau.
