Saturday, Jan. 9 5:58 p.m. — Eastern Heights Boulevard, domestic violence. William Whitacre, 32, of Eastern Heights Boulevard, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and assault. Whitacre reportedly shoved his 33-year-old girlfriend off the bed and into the wall, grabbed her keys out of her hand, put her in a headlock and wrestled her to the ground after they got into an argument. Whitacre was found in the backyard, taken into custody and then to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation after making suicidal threats. He was later transported to Lorain County Jail. Sunday, Jan. 10 4:41 p.m. — Middle Avenue, suspicious activity. Adam Baumiller, 43, of Middle Avenue, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and menacing. Officers found Baumiller talking loudly and acting erratically, and he refused to listen to them as they told him he had a warrant for his arrest on a menacing charge from earlier in the day. He tensed up and pulled away from officers trying to handcuff him and was about to punch an officer when he was wrestled to the ground and into custody. Baumiller, who admitted sending a text message to his wife threatening violence, was taken to Lorain County Jail. 3:31 p.m. — Midview Crossing Apartments, Middle Avenue, trespass. Jose Garcia-Melendez, 47, of Middle Avenue, was cited with misdemeanor trespass and open container violations. An officer saw Melendez riding a bike and drinking a 24-ounce beer while entering Midview Crossing Apartments at 1864 Middle Ave. and was known to be banned from the property. He was released with orders to appear in Elyria Municipal Court on Jan. 13. 10:54 a.m. — Larkstone Place, domestic violence. Bryce Bartolotta, 23, of Larkstone Place, was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence and assault charges. Bartolotta assaulted his 23-year-old girlfriend by choking her and shoving her to the ground, then kicked her in the head. He was taken to Lorain County Jail. 12:59 a.m. — Knights Inn, Griswold Road, warrant service. Michael Carte, 30, of Cleveland, was arrested on a warrant through the Parma Police Department. Officers investigating a disturbance found Carte and Arthur Pickens III, 44, had gotten into an argument while trying to jump-start Pickens' van. Pickens said Carte stole the van key and Carte said Pickens hit him with a pipe, but refused to press charges. Carte was handed over to the custody of a Parma police officer. Monday, Jan. 11 11:22 a.m. — Barbara Street, weapons violations. Michael Johnson Jr., 24, of Barbara Street, was arrested on a felony charge of having weapons under disability and a misdemeanor charge of aggravated menacing, as well as a warrant through Wayne County. Officers responding to a disturbance saw Johnson on the lawn in front of 1020 Barbara St. and arrested him. Neighbors said Johnson pulled a black handgun while several women were arguing and made threats. A 9 mm Smith & Wesson gun was recovered, and it was discovered Johnson was not allowed to own or possess it because of a domestic violence conviction in Rocky River Municipal Court in 2019. Johnson was taken to the Lorain County Jail.
