Elyria police blotter for Jan. 4, 2020

Elyria police Wednesday, Dec. 23 4:14 p.m. — West Avenue, assault. A 21-year-old Massachusetts Avenue man told police he was walking home from his job at Rural King, 430 Oberlin Road, when four to six Black males wearing masks and believed to be juveniles approached him near Ely Stadium. When he told them he didn't carry cash and kept walking, one of the young men punched him three times in the head before they all ran away. No further description was provided and officers could not locate any suspects after searching the surrounding area. 4:43 p.m. — Speedway, Lorain Boulevard, disturbance. A 23-year-old Garden Street woman told police she went to meet her mother, a 40-year-old Delaware Street woman, at the gas station at 895 Lorain Blvd. in order to give her mother a Christmas gift and got into an argument with her mother's boyfriend, a 57-year-old Turner Street man whom she said spit in her face before driving away and nearly hitting her with his car. The woman and her boyfriend denied the incident happened that way and said the alleged victim was lying. Surveillance footage did not capture an altercation, and advised the man on how to obtain a civil protection order against his girlfriend's daughter. Friday, Dec. 25 7:24 p.m. — West Avenue and Sixth Street, traffic complaint. Dejon Boone, 22, Brace Avenue, and Lamont Hines Jr., 21, Middle Avenue, were arrested — Boone on felony charges of tampering with evidence and illegal conveyance of drugs, misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, no driver's license and reckless operation and warrants for felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; and Hines on a bench warrant through the Lorain County Sheriff's Office. The men reportedly were in a white Dodge Charger seen driving recklessly on West Avenue behind a marked police cruiser. After a traffic stop, an officer saw items being thrown from the car including a digital scale with cocaine residue on it. Two baggies of marijuana weighing 34.4 grams also were found on Boone as he was being booked at Lorain County Jail.
