Man shot, wounded on Gull Drive in Elyria; 2 arrested on felony charges (UPDATED)

Editor's Note: Maurice Kimbrough pleaded guilty to being a person in possession of ammunition with a prior domestic violence conviction in U.S. District Court in Cleveland in May 2021 and was sentenced to three years and one month in federal prison in September 2021. Megan Ody pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and obstructing official business in Lorain County Common Pleas Court in June 2022 and was sentenced to probation. ELYRIA — Two people have been charged with felonies after an argument over an alleged drug deal resulted in a Cuyahoga County man being shot in the foot. Maurice Kimbrough, 34, of Furnace Street, and Megan Ody, 29, of Gull Drive, were arrested Dec. 22 on felony charges — felonious assault, having weapons under disability and carrying a concealed weapon for Kimbrough, and tampering with evidence for Ody, who also was charged with misdemeanor obstructing official business. Kimbrough was being held in the Lorain County Jail on $100,000 bond, and Ody on $5,000 bond, following their arraignments in Elyria Municipal Court. Officers responded shortly before 5:30 p.m. to the 300 block of Gull Drive in the Pikewood Manor Mobile Home Park for a report of two men fighting in the street. According to Elyria police reports, one of the men had fired a gun at the other. A witness said Kimbrough had the gun and fired at least one shot at 29-year-old Robert Etheridge Jr. of Maple Heights as the two argued in a yard. The witness said Kimbrough then ran inside the trailer at 322 Gull Drive and was still there. Ody met officers at her door, claimed to be the shooter and said the gun was inside. Kimbrough and Etheridge also came out, with Kimbrough "upset" that Ody had taken the blame, police said. Etheridge told police Kimbrough had shot him in the foot after he went to the trailer to buy painkillers from Ody. The argument started when Etheridge came to believe the pills were fake and allegedly touched Ody "inappropriately," police were told. Etheridge suffered a graze wound to his right big toe and was checked by LifeCare paramedics at the scene, but did not need additional medical attention, police said. Kimbrough told officers he did not mean to shoot Etheridge, only that he wanted to shoot into the ground. Blood was found on the steps outside the Gull Drive residence and officers found a loaded 9mm Stallard Arms Model JS handgun under a couch cushion inside, according to a police report. Gunshot residue tests also were conducted on Kimbrough, Ody and Etheridge, police said. Kimbrough is forbidden from owning or possessing firearms due to a prior domestic violence conviction, according to Elyria police. He also has prior arrests for burglary, tampering with evidence, carrying concealed weapons, assault, violating a protection order, aggravated menacing, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, according to Lorain County Jail records.
