Elyria police blotter for Dec. 26, 2020

Elyria police Tuesday, Dec. 15 12:47 p.m. — Ternes Lane, theft. A 22-year-old Olmsted Township man reported that someone broke into the tool box in the bed of his 1998 Dodge Ram truck parked outside ACT Truck and Trailer Repair at 591 Ternes Lane sometime between 10:30 p.m. Dec. 14 and 10 a.m. Dec. 15 and stole a set of wrenches and sockets, value unknown. There were no witnesses or other evidence. 2:47 p.m. — State Route 57 and East Broad Street, obstructing. Angel Fievet, 27, Brunswick, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business and resisting arrest. Officers responding to a road rage complaint learned that the women involved had pulled into a gas station parking lot on Cleveland Street and one was armed with a box cutter. The victims said Fievet tailgated their white Ford on Interstate 480, threw something at their car and called them racial slurs. When approached by officers, Fievet reportedly threw the box cutter on the ground and tried to get back in her white Honda Pilot against officers' orders. She then struggled with officers, refused to walk to a patrol car and had to be physically placed inside before being taken to the Lorain County Jail. 3:43 p.m. — Marathon gas station, West River Road North, warrant service. Lucius Johnson Jr., 28, Taft Avenue, was arrested on a bench warrant for contempt in a DUI case through the Lorain County Sheriff's Office. He was taken to Lorain County Jail. 10:05 p.m. — The Pub, West Ridge Road, assault. Darious Calhoun, 36, Bond Street, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of assault and unlawful restraint. The victim, 29-year-old Andreana Belinsky, told officers she met Calhoun, who was drunk, at a friend's house while celebrating a birthday. She agreed to drive him home but they first went to The Pub at 8741 West Ridge Road for another drink. As they got into her car to leave the bar, Calhoun reportedly rubbed her leg and she asked him to stop. He then punched her multiple times, grabbed her purse strap and broke it. Belinsky suffered cuts, bruises and scrapes but refused medical attention. Officers later arrested Calhoun at a residence in the 300 block of 18th Street after reportedly finding him there, drunk and refusing to leave. He was taken to Lorain County Jail. Thursday, Dec. 17 1:41 p.m. — Elyria Police Department, West Avenue, warrant service. Shatavia Sanders, 36, 11th Street, was arrested on a warrant through the Sheffield Police Department. Sanders was handed over to the custody of a Sheffield police officer. Saturday, Dec. 19 8:42 p.m. — Midway Boulevard, operating a vehicle impaired. Joshua Csizmadia, 21, of Lorain, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of DUI and reasonable control. Officers responding to a traffic crash with possible injuries at the McDonald's, 311 Midway Blvd., reportedly found Csizmadia sitting on a sidewalk with no injuries. He appeared intoxicated and said he had been drinking "everything" at Buffalo Wild Wings with his boss before leaving and getting into a traffic crash with a power box for the traffic lights. After failing a sobriety test, Csizmadia began to cry and told an officer to "just take him in," and he was arrested and booked at the Elyria Police Department. His blood-alcohol content tested .054, less than the legal limit to drive, but he could not provide a urine sample and officers were worried about his behavior and condition. He was released to a sober person with a hearing in Elyria Municipal Court on Dec. 22. Sunday, Dec. 20 1:10 p.m. — Jackson Avenue, theft. A 41-year-old Jackson Avenue woman reported that someone stole a handicapped parking placard, her wallet containing her driver's license, bank cards, passport, Social Security card, bank checks, birth certificate and her son's Social Security card from inside her black 2020 Nissan Altima sometime between 6 p.m. Dec. 19 and 6 a.m. Dec. 20. The victim also reported bank transactions on her account that she never authorized and contacted her bank, which froze the account and stopped the payments. No witnesses or suspects were identified. 12:21 a.m. — Burns Road and Naples Drive, operating a vehicle impaired. Samantha Haupt, 24, Marseilles Avenue, was arrested on misdemeanor DUI, DUI refusal, following too close and seat belt charges. An officer saw a silver Chevrolet sedan following a dark-colored SUV too closely on North Abbe Road and stopped it on Burns Road, reportedly finding Haupt behind the wheel with no seat belt on. Haupt appeared intoxicated, admitted drinking five Twisted Tea alcoholic beverages and couldn't tell the officer what time it was. She failed two field sobriety tests and requested a lesser charge because, she told the officer, she "couldn't get another (drunken driving) charge." After first saying she would give a breath test, Haupt then declined to do so, became uncooperative and was taken to Lorain County Jail after officers could not find a sober person to pick her up from the Elyria Police Department. Her last conviction for DUI was on March 26. 12:56 a.m. — High Street, possession of drug abuse instruments. Jon Gasper, 47, Olmsted Falls, was issued a summons to appear in court on misdemeanor charges of possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in front of a house in the 300 block of High Street reportedly found Gasper in a silver Ford Escape. A used needle was in plain view in the center console and Gasper admitted to having a heroin addiction. A total of seven syringes, a used crack cocaine pipe and other paraphernalia used to snort cocaine were found and Gasper was cited and released with orders to appear in Elyria Municipal Court at a later date. 3:18 a.m. — Walgreens, Cleveland Street, warrant service. Shaterris Bowens, 23, Garden Street, was arrested on a warrant through the Avon Police Department. Officers responding to a suspected shoplifting incident at the pharmacy at 100 Cleveland St. found a bag of suspected cocaine and suspected stolen electronics, toiletries and clothing in backpacks and duffel bags in a silver 2010 Ford Taurus that was running but unoccupied outside the store. Bowens and another man reportedly were found inside but denied stealing anything. Bowens, who had a warrant out for her arrest, also had a small bag of suspected marijuana in her purse. She was handed over to an Avon police officer, and area law enforcement agencies informed of the discovery of the stolen items. 7:48 a.m. — West River Road North, failure to comply. Carly Hribar, 28, Vermilion, was arrested on felony charges of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and possession of drugs, a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug abuse instruments, was cited with misdemeanor reckless operation and also arrested on a warrant through the Lorain County Sheriff's Office. Officers responding to a report of a possibly impaired driver at the Marathon gas station at 803 W. River Road North found a Chevrolet Malibu with Hribar reportedly behind the wheel. The car fled the gas station without stopping for traffic, and led police on a 55 mph to 60 mph chase in 35 mph zones, crossing the center line into oncoming traffic and almost hitting an Elyria police cruiser near the Cherry Ridge Golf Course. Officers also saw items being thrown out the passenger side window before the chase was stopped for safety reasons. The pursuit later took back up in Lorain, Sheffield and Sheffield Lake and ended on Hawthorne Street in Sheffield Lake where Hribar was arrested. A bag of prescription medication and a syringe were found inside the car and Hribar was taken to Lorain County Jail. Monday, Dec. 21 12:23 a.m. — Wood Street, operating a vehicle impaired. Antwine Battiste, 38, Broad Street, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of DUI, driving under noncompliance suspension, reckless operation and failure to maintain reasonable control. Officers responding to the 500 block of Wood Street for crash with injuries found a black 2006 Ford Five Hundred had struck a light pole and trapped the driver inside. Battiste reportedly was found outside the car, showing signs of intoxication, and had injuries to his mouth and ankle. He refused breath and urine tests and despite denying he was the driver, had the car's keys in his possession. Battiste was transported by LifeCare ambulance to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, where he was cited and released with orders to appear in Elyria Municipal Court on Dec. 29.
