Elyria police blotter for Nov. 30 to Dec. 3, 2020

Elyria police Monday, Nov. 30 8:12 a.m. — Oakwood Elementary School, Spruce Street, property damage. A school employee reported that someone shot BBs at the windows on an exterior door by the playground. The school had been empty since the previous Wednesday. Multiple holes were found in the window. No damage estimate was given. 5:12 p.m. — Walmart, Chestnut Commons Drive, property damage. An officer responded to a reported car fire and was told by a bystander that he was unsure if anyone was in the vehicle. The officer broke out the rear window of the gray Dodge Charger in case anyone was inside and the Elyria Fire Department arrived to put the fire out. The vehicle owner, 52-year-old Sherry Gonzalez, told dispatchers her boyfriend, 47-year-old Timothy Schauer, was inside the store and she told him to go outside and meet with officers. Schauer said the car ran fine on the way to Walmart and that it was already paid off. Surveillance footage did not show anything suspicious happen to the car. A report was made for insurance purposes. Tuesday, Dec. 1 3:19 a.m. — Portia Court, felonious assault. Aleashea Penn, 26, of Cleveland, was arrested on a felony assault charge and a misdemeanor aggravated menacing charge. Penn reportedly pulled a steak knife on 29-year-old Sashay Smith after drinking all night and pointed it a Smith's stomach, "yelling nonsensically." Penn and Smith's boyfriend, 33-year-old Christopher Collins, had "some animosity" between them over an incident 10 years before, police learned. There were no injuries, and Penn was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Thursday, Dec. 3 12:07 a.m. — Eleventh Street, burglary. Carl Bates Jr., 30, of Cleveland, was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated burglary. Bates reportedly threatened his ex-girlfriend, a 21-year-old woman, with assault and forced his way into her residence. He emptied drawers in her room while she hid in the closet, then when she confronted him he hit her in the left side of her face and slammed her onto the bed. Bates was found in the front yard, arrested and taken to the Lorain County Jail. 4:13 a.m. — East Avenue, domestic violence. Kelvin Foster, 22, of the 1300 block of East Avenue, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and assault. A 21-year-old reportedly woman told officers that she and Foster had an argument that resulted in Foster physically threatening her, grabbing her by the shirt and throwing her into a bathtub. The woman caught the incident on video. Foster, who said he has a mental illness, denied hitting or threatening the woman. He was taken to Lorain County Jail.
