Avon business makes art a party

AVON — Love to craft, but hate to clean up? Want to create, but don't want to spend money on all that expensive equipment? Looking for ideas, but don't know how to get started? If you want to make it, chances are, Pinspiration Avon can help. The do-it-yourself crafting store opened on Detroit Road in June. "A lot of people stop in to see what we're about," owner Kristin Havanas said. "We've felt so much love from the community. When they do come in here, they see we have a space where they can socially distance and still enjoy themselves." Pinspiration Avon offers everything from woodworking to stenciling; candle making to acrylic pouring; paint and sips to string art; and even a splatter painting room, which is by reservation. "Even during times like this, we are able to show people they can enjoy time with loved ones and still make memories," Havanas said. Pinspiration, which collaborates with the popular crafting website Pinterest, has locations in nine states. If it's trending on Pinterest, you'll probably be able to try it at Pinspiration Avon. "Really, just your imagination is your limitation," Havanas said. Havanas worked in the business world for more than 15 years before opening Pinspiration Avon, and was ready for a change. She knew she didn't want to sit behind a desk anymore, and that she wanted to be interactive in the community. "Randomly, Pinspiration came in front of me, and I fell in love with the brand and the creativity it brings to the community," she said. "I have a love for the arts and crafts and kids, and it all just came together." In addition to the walk-in activities crafters can do, Pinspiration Avon also offers workshops, like the Polar Express workshops going on in December for kids, and adult workshops, like a light-up porch leaner, birthday party rentals and date nights. Havanas said she has adapted her business to adhere to COVID-19 safety measures. "I'm doing everything the CDC guidelines are asking us to do, she said. "Our groups are small, we have a 10-person max and our tables are 6 feet apart. We are also sanitizing extra. Myself and my staff and patrons are all masked." Guests can remove their masks to eat or drink and for photos, but must be masked while moving around the studio, she said. Wine, non-alcoholic beverages and small bites are available for purchase, and you can even roast your own s'mores. "If you want to get out of the house, still be safe, relax, be creative and have a good time, we're here," Havanas said. "We offer something for everyone. It's not just a place for adults. It's not just for kids. It's for you, your sisters, your kids and your moms. Supporting people coming together and crafting and making beautiful memories is what we're all about."Havanas lives in North Ridgeville with her husband and two children.
