Elyria police blotter for Nov. 23-26, 2020

Thursday, Nov. 26 1:41 p.m. — Elizabeth Street, lost/found property. An officer was dispatched after an Elizabeth Street resident found a wallet on East River Street between Columbia Avenue and Stanford Avenue containing a state ID and three bank cards. The officer tried to contact the wallet's owner with no success and the wallet was held for safekeeping until the owner could be located. 10:17 a.m. — Wayne Street, criminal damaging. A 43-year-old Lorain Boulevard woman reported that at some point between 11 p.m. Nov. 25 and 10 a.m. Nov. 26, someone used a brick wrapped in a bath towel to smash out the rear and rear passenger side windows of her gray 203 Hyundai while it was parked in her boyfriend's driveway. The victim told police she suspected it might have been her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend that was upset with her. Tuesday, Nov. 24 11:38 p.m. — Speedway, Lorain Boulevard, warrant service. Tavarris Robinson, 24, Lorain, was arrested on a warrant through the Ohio Highway Patrol and also cited with misdemeanor speeding and driving under non-compliance suspension. An officer stopped Robinson's silver 2010 Nissan SUV for going 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. Robinson could only provide an Ohio ID card, his license was suspended and he was wanted by troopers. Robinson was turned over to the custody of a highway patrol trooper at the scene. 11:11 p.m. — Griswold Road, warrant service. Dominic Church, 36, Lorain, was arrested on a warrant through the Elyria Police Department for contempt of court in a 2020 traffic case. Church was in the custody of a Lorain County Sheriff's deputy, was issued a summons to appear in Elyria Municipal Court on Nov. 25 and released at the scene. 5:40 p.m. — South Park Drive, obstruction. Raul Garcia-Santos, 27, Middle Avenue, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business and failure to disclose personal information. An officer on patrol saw vehicle tail lights in the rear of South Park, which is closed to the public after dark. When stopped, Santos refused to provide ID or step out of the car, tensed up and clenched his fists, then reached for his waistband. The officer and a backup officer took control of Santos, found his Puerto Rican ID card in his wallet and took him to Lorain County Jail. 10:16 a.m. — North Abbe Road, psychiatric situation. Shane Springmeyer, 20, homeless, was charged with making false alarms, a misdemeanor. Officer were dispatched to the area for a report of a man in Cascade Park who had a gun and was making homicidal and suicidal statements. Springmeyer was found with his hands in the air, telling police "I just want to go to jail." As he was being placed into custody, he told officers "as soon as I get out of the hospital, I'm going to do it again because I get a kick out of this" and that "I don't care" if such calls take up the time of multiple officers. Springmeyer was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for evaluation and placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold, after which Elyria Municipal Judge Robert White ordered him taken to Lorain County Jail to be held without bond pending a court hearing. It was the second time in two days officers had to deal with Springmeyer making homicidal and suicidal threats. Monday, Nov. 23 3:11 p.m. — State Route 57 and Taylor Street, operating a vehicle impaired. Andrew Britt, 26, Lorain, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of DUI and assured clear distance ahead. Officers responding to a traffic crash found Britt leaning against the side of his Honda Accord. He appeared intoxicated but denied drinking alcohol. Britt did however admit to being under the influence of heroin and fentanyl. He failed three sobriety tests, provided a urine sample and was taken to Lorain County Jail.
