Elyria police blotter for Sept. 8-14, 2020

Elyria police Tuesday, Sept. 8 3:44 p.m. — Jamestown Avenue, fraud. A 46-year-old Jamestown Avenue man reported that he received a credit card bill in the mail with an open bill of approximately $11,700. He told his credit card company he did not open the card, which he was told was used to make online purchases from a furniture store in Columbus. A U-Haul company in Columbus also sent the victim a bill and a notice that a U-Haul rented in his name was not returned. The man froze his bank and credit card accounts. There were no suspects. 6:16 p.m. — Lorain County Jail, warrant service. Christina Kidd, 44, of Huron Street, was arrested on a warrant for contempt of court through Elyria Municipal Court in a 2017 traffic case. She was being held at the Lorain County Jail. 6:35 p.m. — Speedway, East Broad Street, warrant service. Precious Bailey, 24, of Avon Lake, was arrested on two warrants for contempt of court in two criminal cases from 2020. She was taken to the Lorain County Jail. 10:18 p.m. — Fackler Avenue, obstructing. Richard Santos, 54, of Lorain, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct by intoxication. Officers were called to the 2800 block of Fackler Avenue for a person unconscious behind the wheel of a Buick Enclave stopped in the road. Santos reportedly was seen stumbling in the roadway and tried to get back inside when officers approached. Santos was intoxicated, used obscene language toward officers, struggled with them during his arrest and told Officer Dustin Thacker he would "remember him and find him when he gets out of jail." A witness said Santos had taken a Michelob Ultra beer bottle out of the center console before police arrived, dumped it in the road and threw it at the man's mailbox. Santos was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Wednesday, Sept. 9 8:03 p.m. — West River Road North, domestic violence. David Harrell, 28, of the 2400 block of West River Road North, was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence and assault charges. Harrell allegedly hit his 19-year-old girlfriend's 18-year-old sister in the mouth when she got between them during an argument, then hit the victim's 20-year-old boyfriend in the head when he tried to intervene. The apartment was "trashed" with furniture strewn around and household items destroyed. Harrell, who was under the influence of both Xanax and alcohol, was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Sunday, Sept. 13 2:17 a.m. — Washington Avenue, assault. Francisco Latorre, 28, of the 200 block of Washington Avenue, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and assault. Officers responded to a report of an assault and said they learned Latorre had a knife and was vandalizing a 45-year-old woman's vehicle. He allegedly had punched the woman, with whom he lives, in the left collarbone and pushed her into a wall and to the ground. The knife never was found, and Latorre was taken to the Lorain County Jail. 4:33 a.m. — West Avenue, warrant service. Gregory Jones, 40, of Walnut Street, was arrested on a warrant through the Westlake Police Department for failure to appear in court on a sexual imposition charge. Officers investigating an attempted car break-in in the 100 block of Lowell Street were told the suspect was a Black male with facial hair wearing a red hoodie. Three hours later, an officer saw a man matching that description walking on Lake Avenue toward Elyria Police Department headquarters. The man, Jones, denied having anything to do with the attempted theft, but a police database check revealed the warrant and he was taken to a restaurant on state Route 611, where a Westlake police officer took custody of him. 9:38 a.m. — Sixth Street, theft. A 25-year-old woman reported that she parked her 2010 Nissan Altima in her driveway in the 200 block of Sixth Street around 10 a.m. Sept. 12 and accidentally left it unlocked. When she walked her dog the next morning, she noticed her passenger door open and found that someone had stolen approximately $5 in change from the car. There were no witnesses or suspects. 4:38 p.m. — Detroit Road, Sheffield, warrant service. Van Hunter Jr., 39, of Euclid, was arrested on a contempt-of-court warrant through Elyria Municipal Court in a 2012 misdemeanor passing bad checks case. An Avon police officer had Hunter in custody, and an Elyria officer issued him the summons and he was released with a court date on Sept. 16. Monday, Sept. 14 2:35 a.m. — Moore Road, Avon Lake, warrant service. Adria Thompson, 34, of Avon Lake, was issued a summons to appear on a contempt-of-court warrant through Elyria Municipal Court in a 2017 criminal case. An Avon Lake police officer had Thompson in custody, and an Elyria officer issued her the summons and she was released. 2:48 a.m. — Middle Avenue, failure to comply. Stevie Watson, 30, of Cleveland, was arrested on a felony charge of obstructing official business and misdemeanor charges of failure to comply and operating a vehicle in willful or wanton disregard of the safety of persons or property. Officers called to a suspicious condition complaint spoke with a 28-year-old woman who said Watson, the father of her child, was acting strangely and had accused her of cheating. Watson reportedly was driving a green Chevrolet Silverado up and down her street and was in violation of a protection order the woman had against him. Officers said they tried to stop Watson's truck as he crossed the center line, driving in the wrong lanes of Middle Avenue, until he drove it into a soybean field just east of the AMVETS Post 32 at 11087 Middle Ave., got out and ran away. Watson was found hiding a mile away, arrested and taken to the Lorain County Jail.
