Rob Weber wins republican primary in race to represent Ohio's Ninth District

Republican Rob Weber and longtime Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur will face off in November to represent the U.S. House of Representatives 9th District. Weber was one of four Republicans vying for the chance to face Kaptur, D-Toledo, in the hopes of unseating the longest serving congresswoman in the U.S. He carried 6,096, or 59 percent of votes cast in Lorain, Lucas, Ottawa and Erie county. Cuyahoga County's results were not available at press time. He beat Charles Barrett, Tim Connors and Timothy Corrigan, according to incomplete and unofficial results Tuesday evening. The final results will be available after late-arriving mailed-in ballots are counted. In a statement, Weber thanked his supporters, campaign team, wife and God and said he was excited to move forward to the challenge in November. "The 2020 election is critically important because we are living in historically unprecedented times: of change, geopolitical instability, technological innovation that is taking a quantum-leap forward, and a worldwide health crisis and its economic fallout," he said. "The Ohio Ninth District deserves a servant who can unite and lead all of us not only currently but also, well into the foreseeable future." Corrigan noted the results are unofficial and said he was unsure if he would run again if the tide did not turn in his favor once an official count was available.
