Former Lorain High School administrator to help with scheduling

LORAIN — The previous Lorain High School principal will be helping with next year's schedules, according to interim CEO Greg Ring. Tim Jama, currently Southview Middle School principal, will spend some of his time in the coming weeks helping with the high school's master schedule. He was a high school administrator before a staffing shuffle at the start of the school year moved him to the middle school. "There's no contract change, no reassignment, he's still principal at Southview," Ring said. "He has so much good expertise because he did it for so many years that he has volunteered to work with Rae Bastock and administrators at the high school in terms of looking at not only the mechanics of doing the scheduling and so forth but conceptually if there are any changes and help that team at the high school work with department heads and staff and so forth in terms of making sure we're doing the right things in terms of next year." On Tuesday, Ring recently announced two former building administrators who were moved into teaching roles under the former CEO would take over Frank Jacinto and Palm elementary. Ring said further information about what next school year's administration will look like will come in March. He reiterated he is looking at reductions and plans to make the reorganization public. Currently elementary and middle school building has at least three administrators: a turnaround principal and two deans. At the high school, there are at least 13 administrators. Ring has said administrators next year will have to have five-year professional principal licenses. He said the district-level chiefs will be part of that restructuring. Currently there are four of former CEO David Hardy Jr.'s original chiefs employed: Chief of Staff Elena Rivera, Chief of Operations Jeff Hawks, Chief of Schools LaKimbre Brown and Chief Equity and Achievement Officer Kenan Bishop. Chief Family Officer Arliss Prass and Chief People Officer Jacqueline Younker's contracts expired when Hardy left the district; Prass has since filed a lawsuit with the state Supreme Court regarding severance pay included in her contract. Ring expects to start contract negotiations with the Lorain Administrators Association once an agreement is reached with the teachers union. He said staff contracts will be honored through the end of the school year, and if those administrators impacted by the restructuring had tenure as teachers they will be offered teaching positions.
