Malware detected at Lorain County Recorder's Offce

ELYRIA — A potential malware attack crippled the Lorain County Recorder's Office all day Thursday. The offices were back to the old pen and paper method for many services after what officials said appeared to be malware activity was detected on its computer network. The system was down throughout the day, although offices remained open. A news release said some online services may be unavailable while the systems are being tested. County recorder Judy Nedwick said they are currently working with third party cybersecurity consultants to respond to it. The cybersecurity consultants are still investigating the malware activity, and Nedwick said they are waiting for the report on it before releasing information on what caused the problems.. As of Thursday afternoon, Nedwick said there was no evidence or indication that any private information has been accessed or compromised. There also were no other signs that any other county offices and computer networks have had the same activity. The investigation lasted into the close of the office and end of the workday.
