Barbara Jean Bowen

Barbara Jean Bowen, 78, of North Ridgeville, passed away surrounded by family and friends, after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. She was born in Pinnacle, North Carolina on February 28, 1941, to Ann (nee Milner) and Dover France. She relocated with her parents and siblings to Elyria in 1955.Barbara attended Elyria High School, where she excelled in typing and reading. Barbara was also a very experienced seamstress, having made many of her own and her children's clothes when they were young. She was an excellent cook, known for her baking of Christmas cookies and sharing of various meals and recipes. She also enjoyed traveling and fine dining.Barbara was a dedicated employee for 43 years at Parker Hannifin Airborne Division in Elyria, where she was frequently acknowledged for her work ethic and near perfect attendance, prior to her retirement in May of 2015.Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Carol McCall of Lorain and Christine Spriggs of Los Angeles, California; siblings, James France, Dallas France, Edith Wood, Catherine France and Evelyn France; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Freddie L. Bowen (October 2015); son, Derik Bowen (August 2015) and parents, Dover and Ann France.Visitation will be Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. at Living Word Church, 658 E.
