Hunter reelected as Sheffield mayor (VIDEO)

Sheffield Mayor John Hunter has won another term, defeating challenger Carolyn White 871 to 191, according to unofficial results from the Lorain County Board of Elections. Hunter said God guided his campaign, and that he is eager to continue the work he has been doing as mayor for the past 12 years. Calling Sheffield the "Heart of Lorain County," he said he is eager to work with other mayors to continue to bring jobs to the village as well as the county as a whole. The incumbent mayor also thanked White, the current pro tem on Village Council, for running a clean race, saying he had nothing bad to say about her. He said collaboration between them and everyone else in Sheffield has led to the village's success. "We're a team," Hunter said. "The residents, workers, and the village, and the administration." White said she expected a different result, saying she and her team had positive results talking to people at polling stations throughout the day. She said she has no regrets about her campaign, and plans to run again. "We put up a good fight and I'm not sad," White said to a group of her supporters. "And this is not the end, this is the beginning." She said she ran not because she thought Hunter did a bad job, but because she had ideas to move the village forward that Hunter wasn't adopting. After she announced her run, she said those ideas started being put into action. "Now he's taken my ideas and made them his own," she said. While she's not happy with the result, she said she is happy with the silver-lining that those ideas are being looked at and acted on. White said she and Hunter both kept a cordial and even friendly relationship throughout the campaign. She said even during the race, people around her told her Hunter would still praise her for things she's done on Council. Along with running again in the future, White said she wants to continue to serve the community, and will take some time to figure out how she will do that next. "I'm still not going to give up on what I'm going to do for Sheffield Village," White said. "That's my heart and soul is helping my community to always improve and be better."
