Multiple people hurt in LaGrange head-on crash (VIDEO)

LAGRANGE — A woman driving a Kia Forte sedan failed to yield at a stop sign, setting off a pair of collisions that ended with her car sitting wrecked in a nearby front yard and four people transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center on Monday afternoon, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol. The Forte collided with a Kia Sportage SUV at the intersection of state Route 301 (North Center Street) and Biggs Road, said Sgt. Paul March of the patrol. The Forte then continued southbound, barreling into a field beside the road and then through a yard. The Forte then reentered the road and collided almost head-on with a northbound pickup. The truck sustained heavy damage to the front and side, but the Forte took the brunt of the impact and was flung across the road into a front yard. Much of the windshield and front were smashed and scattered among the area. Both the Forte's driver and her daughter, who was in a child seat in the back seat, were wearing seatbelts during the crash. The name of the drivers and occupants or a suspected cause of the crash were not available at press time. The Forte's driver was transported for medical treatment for possible leg injuries. Her daughter, along with the driver and passenger of the Sportage, were transported with minor injuries. LaGrange Township fire Chief James Rader said the Forte driver was "alert and oriented" when firemen spoke with her. "The daughter was in the back seat in a child seat, properly seatbelted," he added. Troopers gave her a Highway Patrol teddy bear after the crash, which she held for comfort while walking around scattered pieces of the car. The driver of pickup suffered minor injuries to his chest and nose but was not transported for medical care. William Dunlap, who lives along state Route 301, said he was standing in his living room when he heard a loud noise outside his house. He quickly turned to look out a window, where he saw the pickup sliding into a driveway across the street from the crash impact. Moments later, he realized the Forte had ended up in his front yard. He immediately called 911 and reported the crash. Another neighborhood resident, Chris Dukles, said the stretch of state Route 301 by their houses is a high-accident area, with crashes happening every couple months. He came outside after hearing the sound of the crash. "Something happens too often on this stretch of road," he said.
